As part of the initial engagement, the Protofire team collaborated with 0x to evaluate friction points reported by developers using the Launch Kit. Through hands-on testing, ecosystem analysis, and user feedback reviews, we identified a recurring pattern: while the protocol’s architecture was solid, development teams - especially smaller or non-technical ones - struggled with the effort required to customize frontends, configure backend infrastructure, and deploy across networks. Setting up a DEX often involved complex build pipelines, unstructured documentation, and limited modularity, resulting in weeks or months of work just to get a basic version live.
These hurdles weren’t unique to 0x users - they reflect broader pain points across the DEX ecosystem.
